QUALITY: The high elevation of the Rwandan mountains overlooking Lake Kivu are perfect for cultivating the Bourbon (pronounced bor-bone) variety of coffee, known for a cup that is complex, yet approachable.
PEOPLE: Kula Project is a non-profit organization whose mission is to eradicate poverty through the development of entrepreneurs. The project is lead by locals on the ground in Rwanda with development efforts headed up in the US. In 2019, Kula acquired an all but abandoned coffee mill, which they were able to refurbish and bring economic life back to the district by paying beyond fair prices for the harvests of local growers.
ENVIRONMENT: This offering from the growers of the Nyamasheke region was cultivated without the use of harsh chemical pesticides and soil depleting synthetic fertilizers. Kula Project is also a proud participant in the 1% For The Planet initiative.
